Cultivate Good Writing Skills

A must-read section, it serves to remind students that all parts of a composition (the beginning, the plot and the conclusion) are equally important. This is conveyed in an informal and not judgmental way.

Students learn to:

  • introduce their story using the techniques of Flashback and Question

  • conclude their story using the techniques of Reflection by the main character and Cliffhanger

  • describe their characters

  • use linking words to form good sentences

Purposeful Composition Exercises: Stop, Think and Plan

There are 25 composition exercises. Each lesson starts with reading. The title of the model composition gives students an idea of what the story is about. Reading the model composition prepares them to generate ideas for their own compositions and strengthens their writing fundamentals. Model compositions serve as a reference for students to inspire them to new heights of creative writing.

Prompts provided here help students to think about what they want to add in their composition or how to link the information. Students can then begin to form ideas for their compositions.

Systematic Guide to Start and Master Writing Compositions

  • Basic Story Premise which shows the breakdown of the story.
  • Variations to the Plot students are shown a few ways a story plot can proceed and end. These are examples and students do not necessarily have to use them for their compositions. Students are encouraged to create their own viable plot variations if they can.
  • Useful Words and Phrases, suitable words and phrases are provided for students to learn and use them appropriately in their composition writing.

Progressive Writing Skills
Writing exercises begin with studying four pictures with prompts. These sequential prompts would require students to be detailed and coherent in their writing.

Teacher’s Guide

The Teacher’s Guide provides practical support to teachers and parents in engaging students to understand the development of ideas in the model compositions. The set of follow-up questions which students are required to answer reveal how one idea should flow naturally to the next when reading and writing compositions.

Additional model compositions are provided online (link in book) Teacher’s Guide with follow-up questions for all model compositions are also included.
