PRIMARY 2 MASTER MATHS WORD PROBLEMS
Master Maths Word Problems is a series of six books written based on the latest Primary Mathematics Syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education, Singapore. The aim of this series is to ensure that all pupils become competent in the fundamentals of mathematics through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex word problems over time. Pupils will develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
So, what is a word problem? A word problem in mathematics is a few sentences describing a ‘real-life’ scenario where a problem needs to be solved by way of a mathematical calculation.
Word problems are seen as a crucial part of learning in the primary curriculum because they require pupils to apply their knowledge of various concepts to ‘real-life’ scenarios. Word problems also help pupils to familiarise themselves with mathematical language (vocabulary like fewer, altogether, difference, more, share, multiply, subtract, equal, reduced, etc.).
We hope this series of books will enable pupils to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
